Kyoto Walking Tour
The perfect introduction to Kyoto, giving you an in-depth look at the city, its history, culture, and traditions. E-bike and private vehicle options available.
Reserve NowWhy Kyoto
The cultural heart of old Kyoto.
We’ll start at Nishiki Market with a few food tastings before diving into more than a thousand years of Kyoto’s history.
As we walk, we’ll talk about Shintoism, Buddhism, the rise of Kyoto as Japan’s capital, and stories dating back to the 7th century.
But Kyoto isn’t only about its past. We’ll also talk about daily life in the city today, how it continues to change, and what the future may look like for one of Japan’s most historic cities.

A mini food tasting at Nishiki Market, including tempura, pickled vegetables, honey drinks, sesame curry bread, and other local specialties. Admission to Sanjusangendo and Kiyomizudera is included. Transportation is not included.
Is this a private tour?
Yes. Every tour is completely private and tailored exclusively to your group. The pace, interests, and stops can all be adjusted throughout the day.
Can the itinerary be customized?
Absolutely. The itinerary is flexible, and we can adjust the route and stops within Kyoto depending on your interests. The route shown on this page is the one I recommend for a first visit, especially if you want to understand Kyoto’s history, Shintoism, Buddhism, and culture in depth. We can also adjust the day based on your energy level and include more shopping, indoor activities, or arcades.
Where does the tour start and end?
The tour starts at 10:00 AM. Guests staying in Kyoto meet at their Kyoto hotel. Guests staying in Osaka meet at their Osaka hotel at 10:00 AM, then travel together to Kyoto by train; transportation costs are not included. The tour usually finishes around Fushimi Inari, but I can adjust the ending depending on your plans for the rest of the day.
Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?
Absolutely. I can adjust the food tastings at Nishiki Market based on your dietary needs whenever possible. I’m also happy to recommend restaurants for the rest of your stay in Kyoto.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes. I regularly adjust the route for families with children, including more breaks, shorter walking distances, and stops that match their interests. Kyoto Aquarium can also be added as an optional stop for families.
