Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the tour?

The tour is approximately 10 hours. If you would like to extend the day, additional time can be arranged, with extension fees depending on the vehicle and schedule.

What is included in the tour?

The tour price includes private transportation with a driver, tolls, fuel, parking, admission to Todaiji Temple, deer snacks, bottled water or drinks, and mochi. Picnic or takeaway food is not included and is paid for separately by guests.

How much walking is involved?

Most of the day uses private transportation, with walking at individual stops. Reaching the waterfall requires a short hike through natural forest terrain, but overall there is generally less continuous walking than on the city walking tours.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Yes. The tour is suitable for families and children, and the pace can be adjusted around your group. Parents should keep in mind that reaching the waterfall includes a short hike on natural forest terrain.

Is the tour suitable for seniors or guests with limited mobility?

The experience can be suitable for seniors depending on mobility, and private transportation reduces unnecessary walking during much of the day. The waterfall and forest portion requires walking on natural terrain and is not wheelchair accessible. Other parts of the itinerary may be adjustable around your group’s needs.

What happens during the waterfall picnic?

Earlier in the day, we’ll stop so guests can purchase takeaway food before heading into the forest. The food is paid for separately by guests. We’ll bring it with us to the waterfall and enjoy a relaxed picnic beside the water, surrounded by the forest.

Can we enter the waterfall?

Absolutely, when weather and conditions are safe. If you would like to enter the water, bring an extra towel, socks, and a change of clothes. You can also take a quiet moment beneath or beside the waterfall for a simple meditation experience inspired by Japanese ascetic waterfall practices. Entering the water is optional and always dependent on safe conditions.

What should we wear or bring?

Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Because part of the experience takes place in the forest, proper footwear is recommended. If you are considering entering the waterfall, bring: an extra towel, extra socks, and a change of clothes.

What makes this different from a regular Nara tour?

Most Nara visits focus mainly on Nara Park and Todaiji Temple. We’ll begin with those iconic areas before continuing beyond the usual sightseeing route into Kasugayama Primeval Forest by private vehicle. The day includes the forest, a hidden waterfall picnic, ancient Buddhist cave carvings, and Wakakusayama Hill, giving you a much broader and more adventurous experience of Nara.
